Tracking down notorious marks in Valisthea provides players with both a stiff combat challenge and essential materials for endgame crafting. Among these high-value targets, the explosive floating adversary known as the Bomb King stands out as a crucial encounter during mid-game progression. Locating this beast is mandatory for completing a specific side quest that expands your inventory capabilities.
Finding the Bomb King Location
To initiate this hunt, players must first unlock the Weird Science side quest at the Hideaway hub. This quest directs Clive to investigate strange sightings in the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. You need to head to the northern reaches of the imperial territory and enter the secluded area known as The Crock.
Navigating to this dead-end arena requires traveling through the Dragon's Aery waypoint. From there, follow the winding eastern paths until you drop down into the designated ruins. The massive fiery creature will materialize as soon as you step into the center of the clearing.
Combat Strategy and Tactics
The Bomb King relies heavily on fire-based projectile attacks and quick area-of-effect explosions. During the initial phase of the fight, focus on dodging its straightforward projectile bursts while executing physical counterattacks. Maintaining close proximity allows you to deal heavy stagger damage before the boss unleashes its crowd-control mechanics.
The primary mechanic to watch out for is Coronation, which summons smaller bomb minions onto the battlefield. These additional targets will attempt to self-destruct if they are not eliminated quickly by your area abilities. Utilizing Ramuh's lightning magic or Titan's heavy strikes can wipe out the adds before they cause massive damage.
When the boss reaches low health, its attack frequency increases dramatically as it attempts its own self-destruct sequence. Save your high-damage Eikon abilities, such as Shiva's Diamond Dust or Phoenix's Flames of Rebirth, to melt its remaining stagger bar. Breaking its will at this stage ensures a safe victory before the final explosion triggers.
Quest Completion and Rewards
Defeating this fiery boss rewards players with highly valuable materials that cannot be obtained anywhere else. The primary drop is the rare Bomb Powder, which is delivered directly to the quest giver back at the Hideaway. You will also receive a generous amount of experience points, one thousand Gil, and twenty Renown points.
Handing the powder over to the engineer completes the quest and permanently upgrades Clive's potion carrying capacity. This upgrade drastically increases your survivability during the brutal boss battles encountered later in the story campaign. Therefore, taking the time to complete this optional hunt pays massive dividends for your long-term adventure.
